FoodAdvisr is an app that provides an information matching service.  It helps you to access product information so that you can make informed choices that suit your health, nutritional and lifestyle needs when it comes to food. The app allows you to set your allergens, intolerances, likes, exclusions, lifestyle preferences and nutritional preferences and then maps these against the meals and foods you select to give you a rating matched against your profile settings. For allergens, it will give you a black circle with a white ‘a’ indicating you MUST not eat that product; for intolerances, it will show a red circle with a white exclamation mark.

For every product you have selected, FoodAdvisr will give you a rating with the icons associated with each step of your profile set up – and provides additional information for that product at your fingertips. FoodAdvisr enables you to make informed choices when shopping for your groceries and when you are cooking at home, looking to dine out, or order in (coming soon!).

The FoodAdvisr app can be used in a variety of ways. You can use it in any number of supermarkets, allowing you to scan food products for possible allergens/intolerances and against your nutritional preferences, as well as at home or when dining out in FoodAdvisr’s participating restaurants. Soon you’ll be able to order a takeaway too, straight to your doorstep! (Coming soon)

For IOS users – go to Settings – Notifications – then switch the toggle to ‘off’ to stop receiving push notifications from us.

For Android – go to Apps – Settings – Sounds – Notifications – App Notifications – FoodAdvisr – Select the option you require.

Yes, you can use as many devices as you like; just log on using your email username and password.

Yes.  When the phone is disconnected from a network you can still open the app, make changes to your settings or profiles. You will not be able to use the scanning capability or search under MealMatch and MenuMatch unless you have a network connection (3G, 4G or wifi).  Any changes that you make in your settings when off-line will be automatically uploaded to your account profile only when you get a network connection.

When you first open the app, a tutorial will appear showing you how to use the app and what each screen of the app does. You can revisit this tutorial via the burger menu if you need a refresh at any time! Additionally, in each screen there is a help button in the form of an ‘I’ in the top right hand corner which also tells you how to use that particular part of the app. If you need more help, please email us on

The icons you see in the profile settings carousel change colour to let you know that you’ve completed that step in your profile set up.

So when you’ve finished your first step, clicked back and move onto the next setting, you’ll see it has changed colour and that you’re well on your way to completing your profile!

‘Meals’ feeds you (our user!) hundreds of different recipe ideas, giving you food inspiration that matches your dietary needs. Whether you’re looking for a snack, breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even dessert, we’ve got you covered for all kinds of recipes according to your tastes and requirements.

Dine is the perfect eating out companion. Dine allows users to browse menus and find dishes that suit their needs, so you’ll never be sat at the table wondering ‘what can I even eat?’ ever again.

Deliver (coming soon!) allows users to browse menus of nearby takeaways, delivering food that is allergen safe straight to your doorstep! Keep an eye out for the deliver module, coming soon.

Scan is just what it says on the tin! This feature allows users to scan the barcode of products in a range of supermarkets for an instant ingredient match to their profile. You’ll be met with an icon upon scanning, for example a black circle with a white ‘a’ will show that an allergen you have set is present in that product. In which case, do NOT eat!

It is both. When you set up your profile you’ll have the opportunity to specify allergens (identifiable by an ‘a’ in the profile carousel), intolerances (an exclamation mark), exclusions (‘e’), likes (the FoodAdvisr logo), lifestyle preferences (‘ls’) and nutritional (‘n’) preferences. Setting up your allergens will show you a list of the 14 officially recognised allergens (in accordance with the requirements of the Food Standards Agency and Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011.

The second icon, shown as an exclamation mark allows you to choose from an extensive list of intolerances that we have defined with our qualified nutritionist. This list also includes typical food ingredients that are commonly unpopular.

With lifestyle and nutritional settings available, you can also set your preferences for calories, fat, saturated fat, salt, sugar, protein, carbohydrates in the form of starch, fibre, cholesterol and define your profile to a specific lifestyle preference such as vegan.

For allergy and intolerance advice and information you should consult your GP and/or research the NHS, Food Standards Agency (FSA) and British Allergy Assoiation websites which will have many relevant details on this subject.

What we can tell you is that we are using the 14 officially recognised allergens (in accordance with the requirements of the Food Standards Agency and Regulation (EU) (No 1169/2011) and you can see them listed in the profile carousel under ‘allergens’: gluten, crustaceans (shellfish), eggs, fish, peanuts, soybeans, milk, nuts, celery, mustard, sesame and sulphur dioxide (also known as sulphites), lupin and molluscs.

Food intolerances are not as clearly defined; you will find our comprehensive list of intolerances in the second icon called ‘intolerances’ which also has a number of common food sensitivities or ingredients that you may wish to avoid.

We always suggest you visit your GP if you suspect you may have an allergy or an intolerance.

We rely on the producers, grocers and food retailers to give us the correct information about their products. Whilst we cannot accept responsibility for any errors, omissions or misleading statements in the information provided by the brands, groceries and food retailers, we go to great lengths to make sure all our information is up to date.

For groceries, the database we use for product information is linked through an Application Programming Interface (API) with all product updates happening automatically.

Food retailers are responsible for advising us of any changes to their menus and/or ingredients within 24 hours of any changes being made.  We also ask our partners to confirm weekly that their entire product data is correct.

For our grocery product data, we use a number of sources including a UK leading company called Brandbank who provide us with product information on over 250,000 products.  We also take additional product data from some of the grocery companies we work with. For ‘Meals’ our data comes directly from Yummly.

Our ‘Dine’ menu data comes directly from the relevant food operator.

All our quantities and measurements are based per 100g of the product.

All our results are based on 100g so you cannot enter certain portion sizes for results.  This allows us to map your preferences accurately to each product with a standard and consistent measurement baseline.

You can use FoodAdvisr in ‘Scan’ mode in any grocery store.  We can only guarantee however that we have the data on all the products in the stores listed (4th icon along the bottom called ‘Scan’) so your experience in other stores may be limited.

We hold data for over 250,000 products sold in UK grocery stores and we are constantly adding products to our database.

FoodAdvisr allows you to check the menus of restaurants to find dishes that suit your needs. You can access ‘Dine’ via the second icon at the bottom of the screen. From here you can choose a cuisine and define your search by location. If a restaurant is currently not signed up with FoodAdvisr their entry will be greyed out, however you can click ‘invite’ to let us know that you are interested in their menu – We will then pass this on to the appropriate food retailer and inform them of the interest in their dishes.

We cannot make that decision for you.  All we can do is provide you with the information we have received to help you make an informed choice.  It may have been made in a factory where cross contamination could happen or the producer may not be able to confirm with absolute certainty that the product has been completely isolated from the allergen concerned.

The ‘may contain’ information displayed is based on the information we have been given for that product but we are unable to guarantee it is free from the applicable ingredient so only you can make that decision.  Some individuals can tolerate trace levels of a specific allergen and others cannot, therefore we have to leave the decision to you as to how strict you must be with a ‘may contain’ clause.  As always, we recommend you consult with your GP.

You can choose your slider amounts within the ranges we have set. Go to your profile settings and tap ‘nutrition’ in the carousel – This is where you will see your sliders for your calories, total fat, saturated fat etc. As you adjust the sliders you will see the amount changing and turning from green to amber to red, depending on how healthy the amounts are. FoodAdvisr will automatically save these levels to the profile you have selected.  Please note that the levels you have set are the levels you are comfortable with and that the FoodAdvisr engine will give you a rating against these levels – i.e. your preferences.

The app is for use in the UK only – so if you are taking a holiday in the UK you will be fine.  We are hoping to expand into other countries in the future.

No, your app will automatically update when online – that is through the internet, 3G or 4G connection if your mobile data is switched on.

To give us feedback, please e-mail us at  We welcome all feedback and any questions you may have and will endeavour to get back to you as quickly as possible.  The same applies if you are having trouble using the app.  You can also call our team on 0345 241 3590.
